VARIOUS PRAYERS
THE SIGN OF THE CROSS
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy
Ghost. Amen.
THE OUR FATHER
Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. Thy
kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our
trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.
THE HAIL MARY
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art
thou among women, and blessed is the Fruit of thy womb,
Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now
and at the hour of our death. Amen.
DOXOLOGY TO THE BLESSED TRINITY (GLORY BE)
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy
Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall
be, world without end. Amen.
THE APOSTLES' CREED
I
believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and
earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; who was
conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and
buried. He descended into hell; on the third day He rose
again from the dead; He ascended into Heaven, where he sits
at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He
shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in
the Holy Ghost, the Holy Catholic Church, the Communion of
Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the
body, and life everlasting. Amen.
JESUS, I TRUST IN THEE!
Merciful Jesus, we believe in Thee and we trust in Thee.
Come to the aid of our weakness and our incapacity. Grant
that we may be able to make Thee known and loved by all men,
and that, confident in the immensity of Thy love we may be
able to combat the evil which is in us and in the world, for
Thy Glory and our Salvation. Amen.
PRAYER TO CHRIST THE KING
O
Christ Jesus, I acknowledge Thee as universal King. All
that has been made, has been created for Thee. Exercise
over me all Thy rights. I renew my baptismal promises; I
renounce Satan, his pomps and his works; and I promise to
live a good Christian life. In particular I pledge myself
to labour, to the best of my ability, for the triumph of the
rights of God and of Thy Church.
PRAYER OF ST FRANCIS XAVIER
O
God, I love you! I love you, not simply to be saved, and
not because those who fail in love to you will be punished
with eternal fire. You, you, my Jesus, have all-embraced me
on the cross. You have borne the nails, the lance, much
ignominy, numberless griefs, sweatings and anguish, and
death, and these on account of me and for me, a sinner.
Why, therefore, should I not love you, O most loving Jesus?
Not that in Heaven you shall save me, nor lest for eternity
you shall condemn me; not with the hope of any reward, but
as you have loved me, so also will I love you - only because
you are my King, and only because you are my God. Amen.
A PRAYER OF ST FRANCIS OF ASSISI (PRAYER FOR PEACE)
Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love.
Where there is injury, pardon,
Where there is doubt, faith,
Where there is despair, hope,
Where there is darkness, light,
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be
consoled, as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive -
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
PRAYER FOR PEACE
O
God, from whom all holy desires, all right counsels, and all
just works proceed, grant unto Thy servants that peace which
the world cannot give, that our hearts may be set to obey
Thy Commandments, and also that we, being delivered from the
fear of our enemies, may pass our time under Thy protection,
in rest and quietness. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
PRAYER TO ST PAUL
O
glorious St Paul, who from a persecutor of the Christian
name became an apostle of burning zeal, and who, in order
that Jesus Christ might be known to the furthermost bounds
of the earth, joyfully suffered imprisonment, scourging,
stoning, shipwreck, and every kind of persecution, and who
finally shed your blood to the last drop: obtain for us the
grace of accepting as divine favours the infirmities,
torments, and calamities of this life, so that we may not be
drawn from the service of God by the vicissitudes of this
our exile, but on the contrary may prove ourselves more and
more faithful and fervent. Amen.
PRAYER TO ST PIUS X
O
God, Who for the defence of the Catholic Faith and the
restoration of all things in Christ, didst fill the holy
Pope Pius with heavenly wisdom and Apostolic courage,
mercifully grant that we, following his instruction and
example, may attain his eternal reward. Through the same
Christ our Lord. Amen.
PRAYER OF ST THOMAS AQUINAS
Give me, O Lord God, a watchful heart which no vain thoughts
can distract from you. Give me a generous heart which no
unworthy affection can draw downward. Give me an upright
heart which no dishonourable intention can lead away from
you. Give me a firm heart which no hardship can crush.
Give me a free heart which no unruly emotion can claim for
its own.

PRAYER TO KNOW ONE'S VOCATION
O
my God, Thou who art the God of wisdom and of counsel, Thou
who readest in my heart the sincere will to please Thee
alone, and to govern myself with regard to my choice of a
state of life, entirely in conformity with Thy most holy
desire; grant me, by the intercession of the most blessed
Virgin, my Mother, and of my holy patrons, especially of St
Joseph and St Aloysius, the grace to know what state I ought
to choose, and when to embrace it, so that in it I may be
able to pursue and increase Thy glory, work out my
salvation, and merit that heavenly reward which Thou hast
promised to those who do Thy holy Will. Amen.
SHORT RENEWAL OF ONE'S BAPTISMAL VOWS
O
my God, I renew my Baptismal vows; I renounce the devil with
all his works, the world with all its pomps, the flesh with
its inordinate desires. Never suffer me to be separated
from Thee.
PRAYER FOR A HAPPY DEATH
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I give you my heart and my soul.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, assist me in my last agony.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, may I breathe forth my soul in peace
with you.
Amen.
A PRAYER TO OBTAIN THE PROPER DISPOSITION FOR DEATH
I
believe in one God. I believe that God rewards the good,
and punishes the wicked.
I believe that in God there are three Divine Persons - God
the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost.
I believe that God the Son became man, without ceasing to be
God. I believe that He is my Lord and my Saviour, the
Redeemer of the human race, that He died on the cross for
the salvation of all men, that He died also for me.
I believe, on God's authority, everything that He has taught
and revealed.
O my God, give me strong faith. O my God, help me to
believe with lively faith.
O my God, all-good and all-merciful, I sincerely hope to be
saved. Help me to do all that is necessary for my
salvation. I have committed many sins in my life, but now I
turn away from them, and hate them. I am sorry, truly sorry
for all of them, because I have offended you, my God, who
are all-good, all-perfect, all-holy, all-merciful and kind,
and who died on the cross for me. I love you, O my God,
with all my heart. Please forgive me for having offended
you.
I promise, O God, that with your help I will never offend
you again.
My God, have mercy on me!
EFFICACIOUS PRAYER TO THE INFANT JESUS
(Revealed by the Blessed Virgin Mary to the Venerable Fr
Cyril of the Mother of God, OCD at Prague.)
O, Child Jesus, I have recourse to Thee. Through Thy holy
Mother, I implore Thee to assist me in this, my necessity;
for I firmly believe that Thou canst aid me. I confidently
hope to obtain Thy holy grace. I love Thee with my whole
heart and my whole soul. I am heartily sorry for my sins
and I entreat Thee, O good Jesus, to give me strength to
overcome them.
I am firmly resolved never to offend Thee again, and to
suffer everything rather than displease Thee. Henceforth, I
wish to serve Thee faithfully. For love of Thee, O Divine
Child, I will love my neighbour as myself. O Jesus,
omnipotent Child, I entreat Thee again to come to my
assistance in this necessity (indicate your intention).
Grant that I may possess Thee eternally, with Mary and
Joseph, and adore Thee with Thy holy angels and saints in
heaven. Amen.
A PRAYER FOR MISSIONERS
O
Divine Wayfarer, whose first shelter was a stable, whose
first journey was a flight for life, and who travelling oft
hadst not where to lay Thy head; be to those who carry Thy
message a sure guide and unfailing rest. Clothe them in the
garment of charity which is strange to no man, and teach
them the language of sympathy which is understood by all,
that whilst strangers in every land, they may yet be
welcomed as citizens of the soul of man and as brothers of
the human heart, for Thy kingdom's sake. Amen.
